The Calgary Contra community has a number of dance callers or prompters who have crafted a few dances themselves. Here’s a sampling.
Michael and Karen Pollock discovered the Contra tradition in London Ontario where they grew up. They brought their love for the dance out west with them to Calgary and started our dance community. The first dance was on a whim and a prayer, with worries about having enough people to cover the cost of the hall and the band. Subsequent dances were held in the living rooms of friends. Thirty plus years later Michael’s enthusiasm for Contra has not dimmed. He’s penned quite a few dances, and we are delighted to share some of them with you.
