Dance Video

Steven will be prompting this dance next week. For much of this season we’ve been exploring dances that had this figure, but they have been either circles or triplet dances. This one throws caution (and sensibility) to the wind and does it in a longways set.

The video isn’t anything special, and in fact if you want to see what the dance is about you should skip to about the 3 minute mark and then the 7:30 mark.  In between are long stretches focused on the band. Now Natalie and I have some nostalgia for this band because they played for the “First Night” celebration in Burlington Vermont where we first danced contra. Either time has not been kind to them or our memory is faulty, but as you’ll no doubt agree, our Contraband is far superior!

Water Valley!

The 17th annual Water Valley Traditional Celtic Folk Festival, the best darn folk festival in Alberta, founded by our own Dave Settles will be held on June 20th in the lovely hamlet of Water Valley (22 miles north of Cochrane just off of Highway 22). All performances are indoors or under cover, and won’t find a warmer or more congenial festival experience anywhere. Various members of our dancing community are performers this year, and we’re all looking forward to seeing you there.
